This service provides support for those with dementia, and their carers. It is open 7 days a week 365 days a year and catchments area extends from Wemyss Bay in Inverclyde to Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire. The staff drive to the homes of those using the service and bring them to the centre.

On arrival, they have a light snack before commencing organised activities. Lunch is also provided before returning home at the end of the session.

As well as providing care, companionship and security for those who have dementia, it also provides some respite for carers. We aim to do activities which encourage people to use learned skills in a safe environment and also try out new skills with support from trained staff. The service is designed to be as flexible as possible, to ensure the individual needs are met.

We are at present looking at increasing these services to include an evening service and overnight stay as needs dictate. The Grand Lodge's philosophy in operating the Day Care Unit is that the same high standard of care and facilities are provided as in the Residential Homes, which it presently owns and operates in Central Scotland. The care services at Bridge of Weir were extended in 1998 to include a Day Care Unit. The Unit provides care, companionship and security for elderly persons who reside in their own homes, but who are mentally impaired as a consequence of Dementia or Alzheimer's Disease and who therefore require support and assistance in their daily lives.
