A Little Bit about Marcus Humphrey House
Marcus Humphrey House

This fine old building was part of the original world famous orphan homes established by William Quarrier at Bridge of Weir. It was opened in 1912 as the Elise Hospital in memory of Lady Elise Coats by her husband Sir Thomas Glen Coats.

It was purchased by The Grand Lodge of Scotland in 1987 and refurbished as a residential home and has the reputation of being one of the finest of its kind in Scotland. The beautiful surroundings in Quarrier's Village make an ideal setting for an ideal home.

It was opened as  Marcus Humphrey House on 2nd June 1991 by Lady MacGregor of MacGregor, wife of the then Grand Master Mason, Brother Brigadier Sir Gregor MacGregor of MacGregor, Bart. This event marked the extension in terms of the care of the elderly in the West of Scotland proposed by Grand Lodge some years earlier.

The Marcus Humphrey House is registered with the Care Commission for the care of 17 residents and it also has a separate registration for eight people in Day Care. The house is funded by donations by The Grand Lodge of Scotland, from resident contributions and from Local Authority funding.
