PGL Tri-Annual Meeting and Sports Awards
The Tri-Annual meeting of PGLRE was held at Lodge St John Busby No.458 on Friday 25th October.
After welcoming Brethren and inviting Bro. Michael Ward WSW of the host Lodge to the East, RWPGM Bro. Ronald E. Fraser said that no fewer than seven Life Members of PGLRE had passed to Grand Lodge Above in recent months.
Eulogies were then given on behalf of two PPGSWs: Bro. Archie Murray PM of Lodge Inchinnan No.1405 and Bro. Jack Goldie PM of Kil Bryde No. 1667.
Other eulogies followed on behalf of Bro. William Gass PM of Lodge St Barchan No.156, Bro. James McBride PM Lodge St. Andrew No. 524, Bro. Joseph Fellows PM Lodge St. Andrew No. 524, Bro. Sam McNicol PM Lodge Sir George Cathcart No. 617 and Bro. James Fryer PM Lodge Moorpark No. 1263. Reference was also made to the recent passing of the mother of Bro. Raj Sattar PM Lodge Newton Mearns No. 1706.
In following business PGM Bro. Ronald E. Fraser suggested that Lodges might consider inviting the newly trained Prostate Champions and/or members of the Mental Health team to give talks at meetings.
On a similar subject SPGM, Bro. Gavin Burt urged Brethren to take part in a forthcoming on-line survey prepared by Grand Almoner Bro. Tom Davidson designed to raise awareness of prostate cancer.
PGM Bro. Ronald E. Fraser advised Brethren that the amalgamations of Lodge Eaglesham No. 1265 with Lodge St John Busby No.458 and Lodge Moorpark No. 1263 with Lodge The Royal Stuart No. 1414 would shortly be concluded.
He also said that this year’s Christmas Carol Service would be cancelled, but that payments of £300 would be made to each of two local food charities to compensate for the money they would normally receive.
DPGM Bro. Chris Kerr said that tickets for the Grand Ball to be held in the Glynhill Hotel, Renfrew, on 20th September 2025 were selling fast and advised Lodges to submit their ticket requirements as soon as possible.
The presentation of sporting prizes by PGM Bro. Ronald E. Fraser than took place. He firstly thanked PSPGM Bro. Willie Fleming and SPGM Bro. Scott Bogle for their work in organising the respective bowling and golf competitions.
In bowling both the Lord Blythswood Trophy and the Craigends Quaich were won by The Lodge of Erskine No. 1566, with Lodge Craigends No. 1042 runners-up in the Lord Blythswood competition and Lodge St. Conval Giffnock No. 359 runners-up in the Craigends Quaich.
The Sam Love trophy was won – for the first time ever – by The Pollokshaws R.A. Lodge No. 153 with the team of Bro. Drew Calderwood PM and SPGM Bro. Gavin Burt. Runners-up were Lodge Georgetown No. 1170.
In golf the winners of the Major Alllan Trophy were Bro. Ian Wylie and Bro. Peter Aitken of Lodge Douglas No. 1557 who retain the trophy. Runners-up were Bro. Ross Irvine and Bro. Alan Wells of Lodge Prince of Wales No.426.
The Stableford was won by Bro. Stuart Brown of The Lodge of Erskine No. 1566 with runner-up Bro. Scott Bogle of Lodge St. Barchan No.156.
The Robert Watt Scratch Trophy was won by Bro. Alan Wells of Lodge Prince of Wales No. 426.
